520 _aSummary: The main purpose of the study was to analyze, desig, and develop an Automated Library Cataloging System. This study aimed to evaluate the present library cataloging processes, determine the problems encountered in the present library cataloging process, determine the perceived requisites of an automated library cataloging system, and design and develop an develop an automated library cataloging system. The study used the descriptive type of research method. There were 40 respondents selected in this study and they were librarians and library catalogers from different schools. Purposive sampling was used since the respondents were assumed. This study was conducted in 5 public and 17 private schools and colleges in Ormoc City. An interview guide made by the researcher was used to gather needed data from the respondents. The data that were collected, processed, analyzed, and interpreted using frequency, percentage and ranking. Based on the data gathered through interview, it revealed that most of the respondents used the standard format of entries in card catalogs with Dewey Decimal as classification type. Most of them had Author, Title, and Subject Card Catalog and they also mentioned that they used card catalog for inventory and it was done at the end of school year. Many of them also updated their card catalog based on acquisition or during inventories. Most of the problems encountered in the manual cataloging consumed much time and effort, difficulty in maintaining and updating records, and had difficulty in generating reports. Respondents commented that a good automated library cataloging system should have at least search facility or module and capable of generating reports for inventory such as classified list of books and listing of books according to type, status, and year published with number of copies per title. Therefore, it was concluded that an Automated Library Cataloging System be designed and developed. The researcher also recommend that the Automated Library Cataloging System must be implemented and for future researchers, to develop an OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) as an output of the study.
