520 | _aSummary: Generally, reading comprehension is significant because it developed the mind of the readers. However, there were cases that reading comprehension was very low in the sense that they read without comprehending. Thus, this study assessed students' proficiency in reading comprehension and the level of performance for crafting an intervention program. This study utilized the descriptive-comparative design. In gathering data, an adapted questionnaire from MSA NAT reviewer and TOEFL reading comprehensive examination was used. Statistical treatments used for data analysis were weighted mean, standard deviation, variance, and t-test. The participants were twenty-two students from Group A and 22 students from the Group B of a secondary public high school with a total number of forty-four students. The findings of the study showed that the students got a fair performance level, while half of the students got a poor level of performance. The result show that there was an improvement from the pre-test to the post-test of Group A and Group B. Therefore, the students reading proficiency needed attention and intervention for improvement. The researchers recommended the implementation of the proposed program should be used by the administration of the Secondary Public School in Cebu City entitled "Help Me, Comprehend" to help students enhance their reading comprehension skills. | ||
