520 _aSummary: While available OTC medicines are perceived to be publicly free from danger, problems have occasionally emerged without some earlier switched products (Bond & Hannaford,2003). This study determined the awareness of adverse effects of taking over-the-counter medications of hypertensive clients in Barangay Hipodromo. Specifically, this study determined the profile of the respondents regarding age, gender,civil status, and educational attainment, and its significant relationship to their level of awareness about taking over-the - counter medicines. The results were the basis for the formulation of the proposed towards the improvement of minimizing taking medications without doctor's prescription. This study utilized the descriptive-correlational research design. There were 53 respondents composed of middle age and elderly clients with researcher made questionnaire. Statistical formula used were such as simple percentage, weighted mean, and Chi-Square test independence. The findings of the study revealed that the majority of the respondents were at ages average 40-85 years old; mostly compromising of female; married and elementary level. The respondents who were reported as hypertensive patients were moderately aware of the adverse effects of taking over-the-counter medications. There is a significant relationship between the client's gender and educational attainment and the level of awareness on adverse effects of taking over-the-counter medications. Researchers concluded that the hypertensive clients in barangay Hipodromo demonstrated some knowledge on the adverse effects of the over-the-counter medications that they are taking for treating health conditions.
